Some quick background. We are talking about 1982 13'
Casita with a lift and aftermarket
axle and big off road
tires on 15" rims.
I've owned this
Casita for two plus year and just starting to deal with some of its issues. Was considering adding some additions to the frame to allow for a bike rack attachment and spare tire storage but then I was asked: "Was the frame ever strong enough and is it strong enough now for attachments." Good questions as the frame is 38 years old. So, in an effort to determine the frame strength for attachments I've come up with some other questions. I can see that the double tubular frame has already been welded with a patch (repair looks significant and strong) under the door near the front. In my inspection I also located additional stress cracks in the frame where it is factory bent going into the raised tongue. Planning on bringing it to a welder soon for an inspection and some beefing up.
As there is no specialist in my area that deals with trailer frames thought I would ask you all here: Does anyone have experience with this problem on the older
Casita frames? Is there a tried and true method for repairing the Casita frames? Or maybe replacing the frame? The little bit of research I have done says it is a common problem and may be why Casita switched to a C Channel frame.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marty
