A leak....*sigh*

After some VERY heavy, wet snow that is a little out of season, I noticed two small wet spots (about dime size) partially under the wood frame from the escape hatch. Previous owner said there were no leaks. It rained all day today and they didn't get any bigger....I wonder what it was about the snow that made it leak? I popped my head up through the hatch to look at the outside. The rivets all around it were filled with something white (I assume silicone)....except the two right above where it leaked....I could see the holes in the top of the rivet....I thought I might just fill them with silicone to see if it corrects the problem....can the rivets leak like that, or am I likely looking for something else altogether and it is just a coincidence that the wet spots are right under those two rivets?

I've had the same thing happen with 2006 Scamp 13. Be sure and use something other that standard silicon. I finally used a roofing sealer (clear) no more leaks.

I had this pernicious little leak under the bottom right corner of the rear window on my '98 Scamp. I figured it was a window seal. I think I may have been wrong. When I pulled down a shade assembly a PO had put in I noticed some discoloration around a bracket on the rear wall. It had been raining and it was damp. Woot! Bet the moisture was coming in there and going down the window frame right below. Going outside I noticed that the idiot hadn't put any washer/cap assemblies on the rivets when they were put in. I'll re-rivet, and I bet the leak will be fixed.

I picked up a tube of Lexel in Lowes today as a sillycone substitute that even works on wet surfaces. I have seen a few threads on the product but nothing negative at this point. I will use Butyl on seams around the windows and ducting and the Lexel with the rivets. Any thoughts one way or the other?

Peeled off the silicone and used duct tape over the rivets until it is warm enough to use the roof sealer (tomorrow probably....struggled to make 40 today)....SOOOOOO we shall see. It rained all day yesterday and the spots didn't get bigger, so I guess that's a good thing!

Its a balancing act sometimes. 'not getting worse' is good, until you can fix it
