We just purchased a 1981 17' Bigfoot trailer and are contemplating having a roof top air conditioner unit installed. I have a question. I believe there is no way to run the units except for connection to a 110 V service or generator. Is this correct? No way to do it solar or propane powered?

You are correct, you need 110 volts with enough amps to run the air conditioner.

Solar would need a massive pile of batteries and lots of solar panels. Cost would be too great for a RV.
Never heard of a propane powered A/C
