I'd like to extend a big thank you to Micheal Sanders for directing me to this site.Just started to explore and there is a lot to explore.
Hopefully the pictures of my trailer come out ok. information about this trailer company has been hard to find. It is a 1974 Amerigo fiberglass 14 ft self contained unit. Manufactured by Amerigo-Gardner in Bristol,In. According to the RV/MotorHome Heritage Hall of Fame in Elkhart Lake,In,the company went out of business in 1992.If anyone has more info please drop me a note.
Thanks,Randy Frahm

Randy,:wave

Thanks for posting you photos. I moved your thread over here to “Owners Helping Owners” to hopefully help you get more responces.

It just didn’t seem to fit in the tutorials to me.

How big (long, wide) is your trailer?

Randy F.

:wave Hello! Very nice looking travel trailer! Glad you were able to get some pictures posted here. It appears to be in remarkable condition for a 30 yr old trailer. That's molded fiberglass for you! ;)

IMHO, the older model Amerigos are much nicer and better looking than the new ones on the market now. But then, I am somewhat partial to fiberglass ;)

Welcome aboard!

Info

Randy: The Amerigo travel trailer was produced in Bristol, IN. In addition to your trailer they also previuosly produced pop-up type campers. If my memory serves me, the company was located on State Route 15 in Bristol. Although, the company ceased production in 1992. The name Amerigo was purchased by another larger company to produce travel trailers with the Amerigo name. But no relationship to the company in Bristol. The company that owns the Amerigo name is located in Elkhart. But I'm not sure which company. The fiberglass camper as like the one you own was in short production. There were several in the area prior to my purchase of the U-Haul camper. One located in Bristol, IN off County Road 4, and one located in White Pigeon, MI. The one in Bristol, IN; I had considered buying. But weight and age was a factor. Priced at around $1500, and the one in White Pigeon was $800. or Best Offer. And there are probaby still quite a few out there!!! I was previously discussing the Amerigo and Liberty Companion in a previous message. Anyway, I'm glad you found your way to the forum after I emailed you after I was searching for more info on Amerigo Travel Trailers, and I saw your note on another online rv forum. Welcome, anyway!!!!

Something else

Look at where your seam on the side is....

Now, look at the pictures of your camper.....

Now imagine your camper bottom without the fiberglass top, and you can just picture a pop-up tent camper!!!

Thought I'd post pictures I have of our Amerigo Trailer. The trailers in storage until April so I won't have more until then. I'm going to try to draw a floor plan and post if I can.

Randy: It was nice to see the interior of your camper. It is the original interior same as what I saw in the two Amerigo Travel Trailers I had seen.

Saw this on the classifieds on a web page.

Maybe you could try to get some info from him.

It was "SOLD". I emailed the owner. But it was sold already.
So, somewhere out there you have another Amerigo Camper owner!

I'm a newby on this site as well. I just acquired a 1970 Amerigo Travel trailer and plan to gut it and start over. I'm finding little or no information about it either. It's a cute rig however someone made a mess of upgrading it. I am a partner in a preowned RV lot so I have access to a variety of parts to upgrade it. I want to keep the vintage look and take it back as close as I can.

I like you am surprised I haven't been able to find more people with them. I hope to paint the exterior (as it is now grey primer) to a two tone look. Not original but I think it will look nice. I'm starting from scratch as there are currently no appliances and very few original cabinets left. It will arrive on Friday so I'll post photos when it arrives. It will be sad as it is being trailered to our lot.

First I will be replacing the axle as one rim is bent and I can't find another 4 bolt rim to fit. It will be alot of work but I'm thrilled to get it here and give it a new life.

Hey Kim! Sounds like an interesting project. We have exactly three pictures of an Amerigo in the albums: Amerigo Album. Hope the one interior picture helps.

Sing out when you need help or information. These trailers are more alike than they are different. And yes, we LOVE to look at pictures!

Kim,

Congratulations and welcome.

Paul Neumeister from Ontario has a Boler that is based on the same molds. He has done a fine job of restoring his. You might want to contact him if you have some questions.

I'm surprised you can't find 4 bolt rims. I've recently purchased 3 new ones made by Carlisle through princess auto. They are not the original style, but they are 13" rims with a 4 bolt on a 4" pattern.

OK, My Amerigo arrived this week. The exterior was not as bad as we thought but the windows have all been sealed shut. The entire outside was primed with grey primer to include some trim and lights. I hesitate to show you these photos but ... here goes. I'm attaching a link instead. It's just a whole lot easier. www.PictureTrail.com/gid20465869

Good news...
- Frame and axle are fine
- original door & windows intact (although some are covered up on the inside)
- Some original cabinets remain
- Exterior damage wasn't as bad as we thought. The fiberglass repair will be easier as all the pieces are still there.
- Original Cushions are still there

Bad news ...
- This will be an almost entire interior gut and redo
- Wiring seems to be new although it was poorly placed and the boxes are exterior mounted to the cabinets in many places
- They replaced some of the original cabinets with poorly constructed homemade cabinets.
- Stove and refrigerator were removed
- Sink was moved to different location and will be returned to its rightful home
- Walled placed over rear back and side window
- All windows caulked shut ... Uggg!

So, wish me luck... we start ripping out the interior tomorrow.

Wow! I think that it's safe to say that you have your work cut out for you. That should make a great trailer. One step at a time and lots of pictures.
