Awning alternative for Scamp
Hi everyone, I bought a 2008 13 foot Scamp recently and it did not come with an awning. The rivets are there but no awning. Owner said it blew off years ago.
I was wondering are there alternatives to buying a factory made for 1000 and some dollars online? Do you all use anything else? love some ideas about what I can do. I can’t imagine not having something set up to store things under when I’m at a site. And for a little shade. Thanks in advance!

Lots of discussions on that topic in this forum ... (google [search terms] site:fiberglassrv.com)
Freestanding: The Clam seems to be the preferred make. Coleman makes a small tent shelter which goes up in a minute or two.
Attached to camper: You pay the big $$$ for ease of use. You can also get a bag awning. The long bag attaches to the a rail on the camper and a canopy rolls up and stores in the bag. The support poles sometimes store in the bag also. Must be dry when stored to avoid mold. For a retro look see Marti's Vintage Trailer Awnings
But again, try the search for hundreds of posts about awnings and awnings on Scamps. I have only touched on the subject.
PS.. Im in the camp that thinks an awning is usually more trouble then it is worth, esp if it cost $1,000. One must roll it up when it gets windy, or if leaving the camper and it might get windy. Apparently the prior owner came to the same conclusion since he did not replace the awning when it blew off. If I were to get one, I would look at https://www.shadyboy.com/

I bought this one 4 years ago and love it. No longer available, but there is probably something out there like it. Can be attached to rear or side of your car also. Nothing special needed on your trailer to use it.

+1 for Marti's Awnings.
I removed the much-hated, (by me,) factory installed Fiamma Awning, that IMO is a worthless atrocity on a fiberglass trailer, (just my opinion.) I removed the POS Fiamma Awning and replaced it with a simple Keder rail slide-in awning. Never regretted it, and in fact I love it.
If you want excellent workmanship, top end "Sunbrella" fabric, and most importantly, someone who really knows what she's doing to work with you, and get you what you want, she's a "cult classic" in the vintage trailer circles, and elsewhere as well.
Less expensive, (by a long shot,) easy to set-up and take down, and no moving parts. What could be better or easier.

Awning
Thanks Greg, so does she provide the little rail that I see there are that it attaches to or is she just doing the ironing? I guess I could find out by contacting her as well. Thanks for your response again.

Shady Boy is another option. Self-storing, very light, better wind resistance than most, and no poles or guy lines required.

I have had good luck with King Camp on our "Little Joe". Have had it probably 5 years. Very light weight which I was leery of but it has held up fine even in some strong winds.
I do tilt it down at night just in case. Got worried in a rain storm one time and got soaked tilting it down so since then I do it when we go to bed.
Here is the link where I bought it. It is still available for $93.99 with free shipping from the King Camp Company:

They have an awning that is called a moon shade for about $300. It comes in a carry bag.

Check out the awnings from Bus Depot (VW Bus stuff) - they are relatively inexpensive (under $150) come in two sizes and have sidewalls available. They have two outer legs and you just have to find a way to strap the inside horizontal pole to your camper. It packs into two stuff sacks about 4" in diameter and two feet long.
I have a couple of eyebolts attached to the awning rail that I feed the pole through.

our Casita came with a Fiamma awning, that worked rather nicely
Our Escape has a Carefree of Colorado awning, this is considerably more substantial and beefy... its deployed here...
but is probably too much for a Scamp.

Those look like they would work too! So many options now!
