Awning Question

I have the original awning rail for my Boler. I read along time ago you can attach to it with rope. How can you attach to the rail? I am starting to plan this part of build, but have never used such a rail before. Any suggestions or links are appreciated!

They were most likely talking about a rope awning whereas the rope is sewn into the awning along one side and then it slides in the awning rail. This is how most awnings are attached to the trailer. Example below:

Thank you!! I love the tutorial at The Montana Life Awning Instructions | This Montana Life

I think this is what I will do. Maybe even a matching shower tent.

My awning has a plastic tube/edge made for awnings that is sewn onto it. The awnig slides into the rail like a dream.

The plastic edge does sound like a good idea, will look into it.

I fold tarp over a rope, then slide the whole thing into the rail.

You'll find that all your newer awnings use small plastic tubing instead of rope. Rope is old school. And the word 'rope' is mainly used today to describe the type of awning.

I think the current plan is to us a tarp and rope this summer, and make a retro looking awning to match the trailer over the winter.

That is the plan, but as new ideas show up it could change.

Thanks for all the comments, they help

Thanks Vic.

I used rope and it works ok, but with the prices on the link you gave I will be adding a welt when I make the retro awning. Thanks for the link

Hey, I'm old skool! Nothing wrong with using rope. It's relatively inexpensive, easily replaceable and does the trick as well as the higher priced stuff. Just different methods of accomplishing the same thing
