The earlier
Escape generation had chromed entry door hinges prone to pitting unless you kept them well waxed. While packing for a trip I noticed the lower hinge pin of my 2014 21 was falling out. Not good!
These older hinges had a metal button swaged into a drilled center hole on top (as installed.) I changed mine out for the stainless versions that many were ordering a year or two ago which I had fortunately ordered back then. The good news (if this happens while camping or on the road) is that the pin can be slid out of the hinge and reinserted from the top side, which will at least get you back home. It will completely
fall out on it's own if you don't notice the problem - mine stuck out another inch before I pushed in back in.
