Bed extension for 13' Scamp

I'm a "new to me" 1978 13' Scamp owner. My husband and I have just started working on our cute little trailer and we know that one thing we'd like to do is extend the bed to make it wider. We have already removed the kitchenette and heater because we won't be using them. We want to remove the clothes closet as well and build something to extend the bed that might sit on the wheel encasements. Does that sound possible and structurely safe (removing the closet). I am so glad we found our little treasure and this fantastic site.......

Removing the closet is possible but it is a roof support.I have thought of doing same thing.I beleive if some sort of roof support could be made to replace the closet and cupboards on opposite side it would then be viable.I have looked at using some form of flat iron shaped to the roof outline,something like a roll bar only much smaller.Another idea I had was to do same thing using plywood cut to shape.Hope this makes sence.
