Best Lubricant for Trailer Stabilizers?

The four stabilizers under our Silver Cloud can be difficult to hand-crank and quite noisy unless the screw drive is sprayed with a lubricant very frequently. I’m hoping to use my drill instead of the hand crank on our next trip in December. What is a good lubricant to use that won’t collect dirt and will continue working for several weeks at a time? Or is weekly lubrication what everyone using a drill has to do? Thanks.

I have no idea if it is the best, but I use a spray bicycle chain lube on mine. I use it a couple times a year.

I use a product called Tri-flow on our stabilizers. It’s not greasy, and does not seem to attract dirt. It’s a good bike chain lubricant too as well as good in our awning slides and the interior of our paddle style door latch including the strike plate and mechanism. I got my last aerosol can at Ace Hardware. It lasts a very long time. Also good in padlocks and cylinder type locks on access hatches. I like it on pivot points on spinning reels. (Like on the bail and line roller) it a good lubricant and a good rust preventative. It walks around after application to get into tight places. DISCLAIMER: I do not have stock in the Tri flow company or in Ace Hardware but I did sell for a living for several years. Hope you are having a great Fall.

Do you have stabilizers like this?

Mine were bolted to the frame by two bolts on either side, in the front, and same for the rear. I had problems with them creeping down while driving, no matter how tight I raised them. I finally removed them, welded tabs and drilled holes, and now pin them each time I retract them.

What I am getting at is it is probably much easier (they are heavy however) to unbolt them and remove them. Lay upside down on sawhorses and thoroughly clean and lubricate the screws.

After getting them clean, use a dry film spray lube or possibly something thin like WD40 or LPS2, that won't collect much dirt and grit.

Doing this will allow you to extend the stabilizers as far as they will go, exposing all of the screw threads. I suspect they need cleaning. One of my screws was bent and I removed it and carefully straightened it (they bend easily).

Before I got to the point of installing the pins, I was securing them with wire ties every time I put them up. I had one extend and was almost touching the ground when I got to a campground and discovered it, and on the return trip I had two of them start creeping down, my buddy was behind me and called me to pull over and we secured them.

For use with the drill order a socket like this, designed for the purpose. https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Chem-57.../dp/B01F8E60LA

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Due to time constraints, I’ll wait with removing and cleaning the screw mechanism, but I will give these suggested products a try. It’s been a bit weird to not having had the trailer out since late September, but we’ll soon be leaving in early December for an extended trip to Louisiana and Texas lasting until March. This is a first for us!
