I am interested in trying this. (Or having my husband do it, he can fiberglass but is not a very good carpenter) Can you please explain more on how you would do it.

ceiling repair

Morning Shawn, Thanks for showing us the "oh so well done" ceiling (roof repair). I am the new guy on the block having just purchased a 1981 17 ft. Bigfoot gaucho model. Water damage around windows and some water in the ceiling.
Just wondering how you got the old ceiling panels off the roof without taking down any cabinets?" Thank you.

We used a pneumatic cutoff tool. They come on sale at Canadian Tire and Princess Auto. Was able to cut fairly close to the cabinets. You will need to wear ear muffs, respirator, goggles and leather gloves. Let me know how the project goes and feel free to ask lots of questions.

ceiling repair

Thanks Shawn, used my electric oscillating tool to cut flush to the cabinets. Removed the roof panels of which none had remained glued, and found many pin holes which I repair patched with resin and fibreglass cloth. I am not cross hatching the roof with wood as you did. I am laying fibreglass cloth with epoxy resin on the back of all the closed cell foam ceiling insulation and when cured will then glue them in place to the fibreglass roof. Also a plan is to notch (make a pocket) at the top of walls and run 2 or 3 lengths of aluminium 1 inch square tubing below the the finished ceiling then cover with some nicely finished wooden strips. Will take pics as things unfold.
Can any one on the forum suggest a good outside roof coating for the fibreglass top?
Anyway, certainly appreciate the work you are doing and we all seem to be part of a fibreglass brotherhood. Enjoy the process!!!
