Boler hinge

My Boler is a 17’ RGH model
Can anyone tell me what material boler hinges are made from. I’m guessing Aluminum? I have them at a machine shop awaiting a repair and they were concerned about them being pot metal and not weld able ? They can weld aluminum. Thanks for your help if you know the answer to my riddle.

hinge

Look for a machine shop that knows what things are when it is in their hand.

Boler hinges

Not pot metal, but real aluminum. Mine are, at least.

I figured as much. The tech said that they looked like an old pot ash metal that he had not seen in a long time. He wanted to know how old they were and what they were off of None the less they ARE aluminum and he was able to weld up the crack beautifully. Crisis averted as I didn’t want to install the scamp hinge which apparently fits with some re drilling and messing around. By the way, scamp hinges are sold out at the moment from their webpage.

Yes, Scamp hinges use three bolt holes vs.2 for Bolers!

Just curious. Did anybody actually go to boler.ca to find the hinge kits that Ian sells for very little?
Anybody?

I tried using that kit to fix sagging bolts, but I think they were too far gone so it really didn't improve anything. The door is sagging just as much.

I think the effectiveness might depend on the shape of the rest of the hinges.

Glad they were able to weld that up for you!

Any chance you still have them off the trailer?

I've been trying to make some for our '69, but not real happy with what I've come up with so far. The original stamped hinges are pretty much worn out.

I had asked a while back if some folks would take pictures alongside a ruler for scale, but that did not pan out.

This is what I've got so far...one set just hotwired out and cast (lost foam process) and another set cnc cut foam and cast...failed casting, metal was too cold...but almost...may try again tomorrow. Brass balls are on order.

If you can help with some scale pictures...much appreciated.

Thanks,
Al

Glenn, I bought Ian's hinge repair kit. Definitely helped solve my door opening while traveling problem(lost a bag of bedding). The door was a lot looser before the change. It was also nice to have bolts that weren't rusted.
