Book, online sites for Camp locations

Hi All,

Another question been meaning to ask. I know there are books or online sites where you can see where some Public & private camp sites are & type of facilities, etc; But it seems I would need one for every state

So whats the best way to research by maybe

State, County, Hosted, Prices, River/Lake, Primitive, Utilities, nearby tourist interests, etc.

Do some of you stay at the major's like KOA, SAm's, etc? Are they worth signing up for?

We plan on doing a little Boondocking & some isolated sites, BUT I stress the word Little , our days of multiple camping days are likely over. Certain conveniences are expected?wanted for the most part.

Thanks much,,JQ

GoodSam sells members Woodall's very big book of campgrounds at a reduced rate for members. Also, Members can go to the GoodSam internet site to look for sites. The GoodSam sites give a 10% off for members. I like the GoodSam membership and have the camper insurance with them.

Check it out at the following site.

You might want to take a look at the Allstays Camp & RV app here:

Yep, Allstays is a good, general source. I also like WeCampHere, and there are a few more worth a look.

If you are retired or active military there are a lot of great places to stay at low cost.

I have Woodalls campground books that I got at AAA, but they are regional.Free if you are a member, which we are. I thought the Good Sam book was theirs exclusively. Camping World just gave me the new edition when we were in the store last week, it retails for $29.95, but was free with Good Sam renewal.

Campground Info

Hi Joe,
Allstays is an excellent site, I would also recommend Reserve America and recreation.gov. The book Camping with the Corps of Engineers written by Dan Wright is an excellent resource and the rates are very reasonable especially if you have the Senior Pass (aka Geezer pass) available at National Parks, Forest etc. Lots to learn but it's all good.

If you are a AAA member, they have sectional versions of the Woodall book available at a discounted or even free price, depending on your local AAA office - they are free in Syracuse, NY, but I've had to pay for them in other parts of the country. I carry them, but rarely use them. Allstays Camp & RV app is one of my favorites, although I sometimes use the RV Parky app and for non commercial campgrounds, The Ultimate US Public Campground Project app.

By the way, all three apps have home pages that allow searching for campgrounds on your computer (or with a browser on your phone or pad) for free, however I find apps more useful and fairly inexpensive.

I don't often pay for apps, but this does look useful, and with Jon's recommendation I'll go for it.

I believe this includes Department of Defense workers also. These campgrounds only allow military or DOD personnel. A google search may turn up their locations. A know there are some in Florida, one in the Keys and another in St Mary's on the Florida / Georgia border. EDIT; St Marys is in Georgia. Kings Bay submarine base is there

If you are authorized to use DOD facilities check out the web site called military living.com. We look at it all the time. We are at Mayport Navy Station right now. On the St.Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida.
