I just purchases a 2005 Dodge Dakota. I would like to mount my Prodigy brake controller on the left side of the steering column. Has anybody done this with a Dakota 2005 or newer?

Thanks

The directions to that controller states it is not critical at what angle you mount it (Other controllers are) so I guess you could mount it anywhere. Mine came with a slide in case where you mount the case then you can slide the controller in / out, for using the controller in multiple vehicles

Question: What if something should happen to you while you are driving and the passenger would need to apply the brakes to the trailer?

Sorry, I can't help specifically with a Dakota, but that's the same controller which I use.

While the nose up/down tilt angle can be set anywhere in a wide range, the installation directions in the Prodigy Owners Manual explain that it must still align with the direction of the vehicle, and be level side-to-side, so finding a good mounting point may not be trivial.

I'm not concerned about that. In fact, keeping it away from the centre console area would prevent the gain control setting from being accidentally changed, or the trailer brakes being accidentally applied, as all the stuff which hangs around there is moved.

Doug, I was referring to the thumb manual control.

Thanks Chester.
If I don't hear any other good ideas that's probably what I'll do. Dodge doesn't leave enough room on the left side.

How about using the ash tray?? Here's a earlier topic about the
Prodigy Brake Controller.

No ash tray. I thought about the ash tray thing, but couldn't find one. Apparently they stopped putting ash trays in.

Thanks

That other thread listed some similar solutions, such as the retractable cupholder/coin tray which I use in my Sienna. Most Sienna owners seem to use a storage bin in the centre area of the dash.

Don`t have a Prodigy or Dodge but in my pickup I have my contoller sitting on the tranny hump....controller is mounted on piece of plywood, (slightly larger than the contoller), and there are 4 brad nails that protrude down about a 1/4"-3/8" and this holds the controller from sliding around on the carpet.....only plug the wiring in while on a trip...works out quite nicely... ..Benny
