Bumper too close to fiberglass shell

The LoveBug restoration continues, primed and ready to be painted but one major concern. There doesn't seem to be any sort of cushioning for the fiberglass shell against the trailer- even though it is supported by the plywood it just seems like there should be an additional buffer for all the jolts on the road- am I missing something?
Thanks again for all the help!
Ann

Hi Ann, I closed up all the body to frame clearances to zero on our boler 16 years ago and after many miles there are no problems.
