Carefree's "The Shadow Awning"

I would like to know if there is another "The Shadow Awning" out there or do I have the only one that I know of. It was purchases from the same dealer who sold the trailer a year before. I have been trying to find parts but even Carefree of Colorado dosen't know that they used to make it. I had to send them pictures and a copy of the manual before they believed me. The awning is a rollup style with poles that interlock to each other. You can put it up with or without guide lines.

Carefree has said that there are no long time employees who remember "The Shadow Awning" but they have found that the parts for that awning where sold to a dealer in Arizona. When I hear from that dealer I will Update this post. You will noticed there is a tube at the bottom of the awning. This tube was used for the storage of the poles but over time the end caps that where made of plastic have detoriated to the point that I no longer trust it when pulling the trailer. I don't want to lose any of the poles. The tube also holds the awning in place for towing.

Wondering if you ever got the name of the Arizona company that has the rights to the parts? Also wondering if you could take a pick of the awning mounts, both for the awning itself and the poles, looking at buying a used one in decent condition, rather cheap, but no mounting hardware. Thank you, for any additional info.

I have a roll-up carefree awning - it rolls up, is held with three velcro strips/D rings, and zips into the attached case. There are legs that connect to cleats on the trailer wall, and another set of legs for vertical positioning, I assume with guylines.

Is this what yours is like?

Carefree Awning

I have the Carefree of Colorados "Shadow Awning". It rolls up on its own and into the holder mounted the length of the trailer. It has springs inside the holder that winds up when the awning is let to roll up. The dealer in Arizona does not recognized that awning and he said that he is not the original owner of the dealership. He checked all of his inventory but no parts for the shadow awning exist.

Thanks for all help.

I am joining this thread because I recently purchased a 1979 Scamp, 13', and it has THE SHADOW Awning. I removed the awning from the track, and showed my pics (below) to my local RV tech because I could not slide the second post off the end of the roll. He instructed me to remove the end cap and rotate it slightly until the track was not blocked. Easy fix. But now I also need to figure out what others have done for making the foot mount to match the "U" shape of the posts and I also need to clean off some old stubborn grime from the awning material. Any help?Click image for larger version

If you look at my pictures you will see that you are missing part of the holder that holds the pipes and legs of the awning for travel. It also helps in holding it to the trailer.

Hi Alex! Thank you for your reply. The 2 legs on mine slot into each other and hold securely to the awning tube by sliding in its slot and holding with the tabs, just like the pic you posted stamped 2012/07/28. Where your's shows a red strap, mine has a steel loop pin that keeps it from unrolling. From your pic, it appears the end cap (at rear) is rotated so that it keeps the legs from sliding out the back, which is the case with mine, as well. I had to remove and re-screw my front end cap so that the leg could be slid off. I am assuming your's is free in front to slide off, too. Can you send me pics of the "cleats" (what I referred to as a "foot") and approximately how far down the sidewall they are mounted from the top track. That would be helpful. Thank you.

I see that you have rusted clamps that hold the awning from moving when travelling. I have my trailer in storage and I am in Florida for the winter. I won't be able to take pictures of the leg supports until May. All of my tubes a friction fit that when turned they stick together to form the support. I will take pictures of it all unravelled to show you how the legs fit into the trailer. Hope that helps.

I looked through my computer and found some pictures of the trailer I took back in 2012. I'll put them on this site so that you can see how it works.

I took a picture of the mounts on the trailer. If you need anything else just let me know and I'll see if I can help.
