Hey folks:
I just received a call from NHTSA...
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/
... inquiring about a Carlisle tire failure report I filled out in November 2001. They wanted information on the trailer, asked for a copy of the certified
weight receipt, and became very interested when I told em I still have the tire that blew out. They want it shipped to them!
So for all of you with Carlisle (or Goodyear) failures, here's what's important:
1. Get the DOT number off the tire, very important. If not available, fill out the report anyway, it'll help the cause.
2. Goto the NHTSA site, listed above, and fill out the report.
3. List property damage, if any.
========
I visited a while with the NHTSA representative and they seem to be interested. Even tho there are no deaths, injurys or very little property damage, if a pattern of failures indicating manufacturing defects can be established, they are willing to take action. Just what that will consist of, remains to be seen. Also an implication that the failures may occur at multiple manufacturing locations IF it's a design fault, not a manufacturing fault.

Hurrah, Yippee, Halleluya, Oboy......here come's the cavalry. :wave
Carlisle, I hope you hear that sucking sound.
