I ended up doing the same -- slowly nudging it open . . . ok, I may have jammed a flathead in some spots to check the resistance . . . and it came loose just fine. I said 'yay' and closed it again before mosquitoes got in.

I think it’s wise to have someone on the outside keeping a little pressure on it so you don’t pop it out to hard. I took a chance and got lucky. Good luck.
