Casita Screen Door Handle

I added a handle to the screen door to make it more convenient to close on my Casita 17'. The handle (24" Long) was purchased at a box store and is made of aluminum. Altered the length to (19 3/4"). Didn't bevel the ends so you would,'t see the screw heads. This is an option. May end up doing if I feel it will snag when entering and exiting? May coat the ends with a rubber material to protect against snagging.

Looks great! I went the conventional route and bought one made by Camco, they have them at Walmart for under $8 and it was pretty easy to install.

X2, Did the same. I think they look nicer and don't have any sharp edges. The top one doesn't look all that great to me, it looks very crude, "home-made", and unfinished. Wait until you start ripping clothing and/or your skin on that thing. At the very least, I would radius both ends, and debur them as well before you wind up dressing out your forearm on the way in or out. Just my take on it.

Love it when folks think outside the box John and that will work fine but I'd have to agree with doing radius corners. Seems the older I get I can bump into the corner of a cardboard box and bleed .

I installed one of those Camco ones and am very happy with it.

I've been on Warfarin (rat poison) blood thinners for several years. I just automatically check out many things that most people don't give a second glance to as a potential bleeding hazard, but nowadays I view anything sharp or pointy with a suspicious eye anymore.

I love the convenience of extrusion pieces from a hardware store.

But I do have an aesthetic suggestion that will help the looks without interfering with your intended function.

If you flipped it around 180 it would still function nicely as a handle but also work as a small tray to keep objects in. It is easy enough to round over the corners at the ends to keep them from jabbing people. Flipping it will also improve the overall looks. It won't look as wide because you are then looking down into a recessed space , the upper surface is visually broken up by that recess. It will make the handle seem lighter , smaller and more of an intentional multi-function design solution.
