Chemical smell

We have a 2007 19' scamp with a strong chemical smell from the bumpy white wall covering in the bathroom. What to do to get rid of it? We checked the grey tank and no odor , no odor from toilet or black tank. Odor definitely from the walls.

Scamp bath walls are normally a slick gel-coat finish. Hard to tell without seeing but someone may have glued fiberglass panels (FRP) to the bath walls and you may be smelling the glue. The outer wall in some older Scamps were white Masonite bath panels but they were also slick. I think the bumpy panels are called FRP. Are all the walls bumpy? Pictures?

The outside wall in the bath of my Scamp has a bumpy white wall... kinda like ensolite. I've cleaned it with 409 (now using Awesome) and don't notice any unusual odor.

When you say it smell strong.... is it a musty kinda moldy smell? The bathroom windows are known for leak issues. You MAY have something funky happening behind the wall covering...

Chemical smell

The wall board is original to the trailer not added later, it covers three walls and the outer wall is fiberglass.

Can't figure out how to post a picture. It is not a musty smell but a chemical smell. I will try washing it with 409 or simple green. No mold or leaks evident from inspection. They are the interior walls.

If it a new trailer to you it could be anti freeze in the shower trap from winterization or splashed on the floor and walls. I had a 2004 5er and all the walls were a slick surface.

I ran a bunch of water down the shower drain tonight and ran the drain pump. Will see if that helps. Didn't seem like the odor was coming from there but you could be right.

Eddie,
I think you may have hit the nail on the head with the antifreeze comment. The trailer was winterized and sat for more than a year or two without being used, the antifreeze that came out of the kitchen faucet was strong and very odorous. All cleaned out now with about 4 rinses and sanitizing of fresh water tanks. So I turned on the drain in the shower (which we had not done before) and ran lots of water down it. This morning the smell is VERY MUCH improved, I topped it off just now with a 1/4 cup of laundry detergent and will let that sit for a couple of hours then rinse and drain again. Thanks for everyone's help.

Peg.

Unless you've got TWO trailers you may want to remove the Casita and replace it with what Scamp you have in your profile.
