Corrosion on stove top, help please...

I have been trying to scrape off the corrosion (rusty looking stuff) off my Brown steel cooktop & it won't budge. Any suggestions? Can I just replace it? I can't imagine there being too many in great condition after 35+ years.

If you can't get it clean you can replace it, have you tried oven cleaner? You could also sand it and paint it,I would use a high temperature paint just to be safe.

I had my local hot rod guy sandblast it and powder coat it..looked great in white. Next time I,ll get in black.

Thank you, I knew I would get good info here. I think I will try to find out about getting it powder coated.
