Counter is higher over axle -- floor trouble?

We're still waiting for our new Dexter axle to arrive.

In the meantime I'm reading all of these other threads about floor trouble, which can make you paranoid.

Lil Bigfoot had new vinyl floor when we got it, the kind that looks like hardwood and lays down in strips. I notice in hot weather the seams between the strips seem to expand, i.e. the floor is expanding.

We haven't seen any evidence of damp or wet. However, when I look at the floor of the space behind the fridge (when we're turning it on and off), the wood floor there definitely looks old. Not rotten, but old.

I haven't had any real concerns about the floor, but I DO NOTICE that my kitchen counter is about 1/2 higher over the axle. It's not quite level.

Should I worry that something is sinking? Or would this be pretty common?

We don't notice any kinds of stress cracks in the shell, although it looks like the bumper has been separated and reattached at one point, with some kind of seal and paint to repair the seam.

The vinyl floor issue is that is simply the wrong product to put in an RV where there are temperature extremes.

Right, I'm not too worried about the vinyl. but I am worried about the counter being uneven, it's as though the floor under that one end has bumped up.

Maybe the one end isn't higher , the other end is just lower

LOL. This is true no matter how you look at it.


But even so, it was likely level when it left factory. So is the change a cause for concern.

I can' t tell you . The previous owner of my 1999 Scamp replaced a piece of the flooring that was bad. He used a piece of plywood that was smaller and thinner than the piece he removed . This resulted in the floor being uneven and the kitchen cabinet being twisted and out of square. I thought the OSB flooring had swelled from a leak.
I ended up replacing the flooring so everything was level.

I would check the frame. If it is cracked or bent, the floor will be uneven.

Yes, Take a straight edge and line it up on the underside of the frame. It is possible it is starting to bend, or possibly crack.

Oh dear! Well, after the trauma with the axle, will just keep fingers crossed that frame is OK. But we will have the welder-repair people assess when they put it up to replace the axle.

If anything is off, I'm pretty hopeful they will know what to do!
