Trailer: 1981 Burro
Posts: 8
Well we got our burro in the garage and everything is pretty good. Thinking this might be going from a cleanup to a repair and paint job. The trailer is sound and we like it so much we are thinking of making it a long term relationship. Floor is sound just want to repair the roof and cracks. We are wondering if anyone has ever split a burro. How does the outer shell attatch to the floor? Thinking that if we are gonna paint we might as well insulate. We have the windows and door off. Just not sure how the bottem edge is attatched. Any doctors in the house?
Thanks Jason

Hi Jason,

Congrats on your Burro! We love ours but have not had it out camping due to a complete restoration. Our floor was 90% rotten and we removed the shell to replace the floor in one piece.

I have made a crude drawing of our findings on the structure of the egg. We are adding more insulation to ours where possible. The reflectix insulation that is basically the bubbles with silver vinyl on one side is sturdy enough to push in-between walls...at least that is the case with our floor removed.

I apologize for being a little O.T. but I was always partial to the Burro and might well have ended up with one if we hadn't found our Bigfoot.

What I wanted to note here is that the Burro site is beginning to self destruct. Some internal links are broken and parts are parked at directNIC. Any Burro owners who would like to copy pictures or specs or whatever from the site should move now before it completely disappears.

Whois info:
Domain Name: BURROTRAILERS.COM
Registrar: INTERCOSMOS MEDIA GROUP, INC. D/B/A DIRECTNIC.COM
Whois Server: whois.directnic.com
...
Updated Date: 07-jan-2006
Creation Date: 17-jan-2001
Expiration Date: 17-jan-2007

Sad ending for a nice little trailer...

Hope this helps.... Here's a worm's eye view of what my Burro looked like with much of the floor removed. Tricky work piecing in sections of replacement 5/8 inch plywood without separating the shell from the frame because the shell wraps around it. My answer is to fill/flood liquid fiberglass into every cranny left behind and then imbed fiberglass cloth over all seams.

I also am adding reflectix insulation where I can. I removed the side windows because I will be replacing them with new, and that's when I realized I now had access to slide reflectix up into the roof area and over to the rear upper corners.

Good Luck with your upgrades.

Wow! This is the manual that everyone referred to as being virtually completely hand written. Thank you, Donna! I have a newer copy (of a copy, of a copy) of manual that is typed and rather than drawings has dark pictures. Probably contains the same information.

Wow great stuff. You all make owning our trailer even better. That drawing is great and gives me a better perspective. I think our Burro is going to stay together. Im so excited about our trailer that my imagination may some times get the best of me. Myron I really enjoyed the documentation of the 81 Burro. What a great find. Thanks to you and Donna for posting the documents. Off to get the reflectix. Will try the stuff and push method.
