CT13 Rear Window Decision
Hey guys -
Top of my to-do list is getting the UHaul's broken rear window replaced and weathertight. I still haven't been granted access to the FB owners group and the supposed treasure trove of information there, but I did search everything that I can find here regarding the windows.
I got an estimate of $270 from the local auto glass place to replace the broken pane (I provide window removal and installation labor, that's just the glass replacement and rebuild). From what I gather, though, most here seem to think that fixing an existing window is foolish.
So, my options then are Scamp or custom. Scamp is $295 and I think I have a good handle on the work required to widen the opening. Motion quoted me $354 for a custom sized replacement window and I believe that their quality is excellent, but I can't seem to find anyone who has actually done this for the rear window.
What am I missing? I know the Motion is a little more money, but the difference seems negligible if it saves me from having to cut the fiberglass. I selected non-tinted non-insulated 1/4 single pane, so I expect that the price might increase slightly if I add options but it still seems a good value and easier install. Did most go the Scamp route just to cut costs or is there some other smoking gun with the Motion window of which I'm unaware?
Thanks.

I went with the Scamp window. At the time I ordered one side window that had two panes that cranked out (no longer available) and the rear window. Scamp actually packed them real good, in a custom wood box. I may have had to put the lock ring (inside trim ring) on backwards because of the wall thickness. You need to verify if the window area of the Uhaul is perfectly flat, it may not be. One problem people have had when rebuilding the windows is finding the correct channel that the glass slides in. The Scamp side windows do not fit the Uhaul window opening, they are too small.

Yeah, I think I've already ruled out the rebuild option. Motion just sent me a follow up email and said the same about making sure that the window area is flat. I won't know until the weather warms a bit and I can pull out the remnants of the existing window.
I presume that the flatness is a concern for either Scamp or Motion window options? What's the workaround, in a nutshell, if it's not flat?
The side windows have traces of a slight leak but are out of scope for the time being.

As I recall, as it's been several years, Scamp sent some sealer tape with the window but it didn't work good and I had to pull the window back out. You want to use butyl tape. I might have had to double the tape. It is soft and can compress. I got the Scamp window in, got it to seal after tightening the screws several times, but it may have distorted some due to the area being not perfectly flat, and was always hard to open and close. You'll find that you will have to come up with other work arounds for other repairs. For the other windows check that the weep slots on the bottom are clear all the way into the glass track so that water can drain out. Weed eater string works good to clear them. The stove vent louvers on the outside can let water in during a wind driven rain, it will then drip down on the stove. And most important, especially if your trailer still has the Uhaul decals, be prepared to answer the usual questions; "I didn't know Uhaul rented campers", "where can I rent one", "how much does it cost"

GREAT idea to use the weed eater string! I haven't looked closely yet but there were some mild water stains underneath. The seller actually pointed out that she didn't want to clean them so that I could see where they were leaking and trace the leak. No damage below so that will be next on my list after the rear window. And the electrical. And the frame.
I have some butyl tape in the garage left over from a popup camper roof that I had to rebuild. Good stuff. And yes, mine still has the original UHaul badging. The sides have the orange cover stickers that I haven't pulled yet.

Apparently when the campers were sold they were to be de-ID'd, the Uhaul name removed. Some locations removed the decals, others just covered the name. Ours had no decals, we bought a reproduction set and installed them. The side windows are notorious for leaking.

BUY the Motion custom window replacement.
You will not be sorry YOU SPENT the extra $100.00 for a superior quality replacement window
Well worth it.
The only problem you might have is you will then want to replace all the other windows in your CT13 with Motion replacement custom windows!
Yes they are that NICE!

Good info; thank you! From what I’m gathering, the cost delta widens a bit after I build out the motion window to be more comparable to the Scamp (tinting, insulated glass, etc). And I think motion has a pretty hefty creating fee. But, it’s an investment and I really don’t want to have to cut any fiberglass if I don’t have to.
Motion implored me to make sure that the window opening is completely flush. It’s been too cold to pull out the old window. As soon as the weather breaks I’m hoping to get this repair rolling.
