Difference between automatic demand and switched pumps

Hi everyone! It's been a long cold winter and I'm back on the "need a pump" for my Boler. So I have been looking at pumps, and what is the pros and cons of automatic demand pumps, versus inline switched pumps? I've been looking for a low amperage pump, and most of the small stuff that is sold up here in Canada uses a switch. Any opinions either way? Thanks everyone!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think all RV pumps are demand pumps. They only pump water when you turn a open a water valve, at a sink or at the toilet. The switch is simply a convenience device to allow you to shut it off so it doesn't come on at all.

As to amperage, I never worry about it too much because even when you're using th pump it doesn't come on very often.

The pump in my Boler is controlled by a switch and if on runs constantly. It's a crank arm type pump with a rubber bellows - and it's loud enough to wake the dead.
I'm looking for a good demand pump as well...ideally one that's quiet :~)

I am planning on installing a manual foot pump in addition to my demand pump. this is what I have on my boat and I think it makes a lot of sense. First, it use no power, just a little foot power. Also you only pump what you need - no wasted water while turning on or off the faucet. You also have your hands free while pumping the water.

I find it much better for washing hands and brushing teeth. I will still have the demand pump for getting hot water and washing dishes. The pump I will use is a marine pump called "Baby Whale Gusher foot pump".

So for a switch pump, you have to turn on the switch, which turns on the pump and then you can open the taps? Hmm, I have to then wire up the switch and the stuff I got to buy for that will be about equal to the difference I'd be saving.

Another question - do any of you use or have an accumulator as well? Or do you run from the pump to the taps etc?
