Look up "anderson connector" and you will find lots of info on them. They are used a lot by ham radio operators to connect their 12V radio systems. Good places to buy them are powerwerx and dx engineering. They have everything from the "powerpole" series for low current 15 to 45 amps to behemoths for 350+ amps (great for power to large winches or even for arc welding).
