Dometic Fridge Question

I have a Dometic RM 36E in my vintage ‘79 Boler.

I am having difficulty getting the LP flame to light, even when I hold a lighter directly to the outlet of the burner tube.

Part of my problem is that the operating instructions that came with the unit do not match the unit perfectly. The directions say quite clearly:

“To start the refrigerator turn knob A to position ‘Gas’.”

The knob in mine has three positions: 12 v, Electric, and Off. I want to see if someone can confirm that “Off” in this case actually means “Gas.”

If it’s not a valve question, I can keep looking elsewhere.

Hi Warren,

I think you're correct that your "off" would refer to propane in the case of your fridge. Both of the fridges I have had both were set up this way. Do you have a piezo style igniter on your fridge somewhere next to your switching knob?

Thanks, Larry. I do have the piezo lighter. It has been dodgy for a few years, so I have taken to removing the outside cover and directly lighting it with a lighter. I tried blowing it out with compressed air with no improvement — so something is still obstructing the flow of propane.

Is there any way you could post a pic of your set-up?

Thanks again, Larry. Here is an image of the back of the fridge. It looks like the bottom of the image is truncated, but I hope it will serve. am hesitant to disassemble the burner in order to blow it out because I don’t know if that will release propane generally.

Upon looking again, it seems the image is rotated.

Hi Warren,

Can you tell if the jet orifices are clean? The last time you did have it lit; could you see what colour the flames were? How long ago was the fridge running on propane?
