Add Norcold to the list of refers being recalled. Here's some more info:
Dometic recently expanded its recall on a population of two-door refrigerators. The original recall included some two-door refrigerators manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003. The recent expansion of this recall now includes the same two-door refrigerators manufactured between June 2003 and September 2006.
To find out if your
refrigerator falls within either of the recalls, visit
http://www2.dometicusa.com/recall.php and enter the model and 8-digit serial number of your Dometic
refrigerator. You may also contact Dometic by phone at 800-544-4881.
The recall addresses a potential for these refrigerators to cause an RV fire when they fail, so it is critical that all RVers who have Dometic refrigerators check their serial numbers against the recall list and follow the recall instructions for affected units.
Norcold Voluntarily Extends Refrigerator Recall
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Norcold has voluntarily extended the serial number range of recalled cooling units found on gas absorption refrigerator models 1200LR, 1200LRIM, and 1201LRIM.
Norcold notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Transport Canada of the extension upon becoming aware that the recall could involve additional refrigerators, which may under certain conditions, result in a fire. The additional refrigerators use cooling units manufactured from March 1, 1999, through February of 2001. The cooling unit serial numbers (found on the solution chamber and viewed through the refrigerator intake vent door outside the RV) range from 1008701-1273700.
Vehicle owners with these models whose cooling units are inside the range must stop operating their refrigerator until it has been inspected and repaired. Persons owning an affected refrigerator should call Norcold at 1-800-767-9101 for additional important information and to obtain the location of the nearest Norcold Service Center. Information is also available at
www.norcold.com (select Customer Support, then Recall Info).
“Safe, enjoyable RVing by our customers is our number one priority,” said Kevin Phillips, VP of sales and marketing for Thetford. “When we realized that the original recall did not cover every potential refrigerator, we extended the recall range. There is no charge for parts and labor to repair the defect,” Phillips noted. “We are working closely with NHTSA to have an approved remedy available very soon.”
