Hello

I am à proud owner of a trillium jubidlee 1979 with a 3 way fridg.
It’s not working properly. When i want to start it on propan, I am earing the explosion but it is not getting cold.

Can somebody help me??
Can I do something before going to a garage??

Thank you in advance.

I'm quite sure that you should not hearing anything that would or could be referred to as an explosion. I suspect you are getting a gas build up before it finally ignites and makes that sound. There are absorption fridge troubleshooting videos and websites online, but I really think this is a case where my only advice would be to take it to a repair shop with qualified people.

I always have more success lighting with a butane lighter than trying to use the spark.

My son in law had a Boler with an old three way refrigerator. I was helping him start it on propane. I got the pilot burning steadily. I had the cooling dial set to max (5 I think) I slowly turned the knob to feed the burner flame. Got a “poof” and the flame went out. Tried several times. Finally turned the cooling dial down to 1 1/2.
Turned the dial slowly, a nearly inaudible whoosh. Flame stayed on. Turned up to 5, still stayed on and got cold. Worth a try? Still has the boler but switched out the Refrigerator as the ammonia unit conked out after 45 years.

how long are you giving it to cool down. These are not instant cold by any means, Put a jug of water or something in it and leave it overnight. 3-4 hours , you will get cooling in the freezer if you touch the sides. Does it work on AC power? If so you may have to clean the propane burner or your propane regulator may need to be adjusted or replaced if its old (should be 11" water column at the fridge test point). The fridge is the only appliance that does not have its own regulator and totally relies on the one at the tank. On some of these fridges the flame is not much more that what a bic lighter puts out and the difference between the flame at pilot and full on is about a 1/4" difference in height and it pretty critical. Some of the small fridges use a small round screen as a burner and some use a pipe with slits in it. Spiders have been know to set up nests in the pipe by the main jets and may even plug the jet totally.
