The website that Mike posted has a "U" shaped rubber gasket that looks a lot like the stuff that trims the bottom of my Scamp exterior shell. Can anyone tell me if that's the right stuff or is there another product that I can use to replace the damaged rubber trime pieces around the bottom of the Scamp? Thanks!

Here's a picture of the trim I'm talking about. Do all older Scamps have this trim?

Dang I thought you found some good weatherstripping.

I could go for that one with the chrome strip on it.

Murphy and I are on a first name basis. It usually entails five or six trips to the big box store to complete a simple project and costs twice as much as budgeted. Two feet or two inches, it's still aggrevating.... I fill your pain. File this under "lessons learned."

I have tried replacing my Scamps foam door gasket with new material ordered from them. It only lasted for a few weeks and migrated sideways. The adhesive let the gasket slide sideways. I then fabricated an aluminum channel which I pop riveted to the door frame surface using sealer underneath. I then stuck new foam gasket inside the channel. The channel was 1/8" deep, so held the gasket from sliding sideways. (NOT!) The gasket still slid right over the channel flange! Doh...
I then had to rethink the problem which would have been simple using a cad program to see what was happening. I don't have a cad program, but have plenty of Mc Donald's napkins, a compass and ruler. After a few minutes I could fully see the problem. It happens due to the way the door wraps around the body contour like airplane doors do, and the position of the hinge axis. While looking down from the top of the door straight down through the hinge axis you can model the path of the door gasket as the door opens. You will see that the the door gasket near the middle of the door lifts off the trailer side at a fairly steep angle due to the closeness of the gasket to the hinge axis. But the gasket near the door top and bottom where it wraps inward scrubs sideways when the door is opened. This is caused by the increased distance between the gasket and hinge axis, and that the gasket is well inboard of the hinge center. The door top and bottom sections are where the adhesive won't hold the gasket in place. Not a coincidence. I drew up a model with the hinge axis relocated farther away from the door edge and very close to the trailer side. (I used a new Mc Donald's napkin) The new model significantly steepens the withdraw angle of the gasket, which may in practice solve the sliding gasket syndrome.
When I find some time I will fabricate some new hinges and re-mount my door. I'll keep y'all posted how it works.
Russ

Wow Russ awesome explanation. Guess it wouldn't happen if the door were hinged on the other side. Will definitely follow this thread. I went to McDonalds today and they were handing out paper towels as they had run out of Napkins.

Are you talking about the hard trim or the soft weatherstripping?

LOL the Sliding Gasket Syndrome! Know it all to well which is why I want to use the rubber gasket. Have replacing the foam 3rd times in six years and its again on my spring todo list!! Might have to just call out to Escape this week to find out what the product number and name is that they use!

That's the very reason that I applied the DOOR seal ON the DOOR. Works great and no leaks. If you look at my posts you can see the inner seal only goes part way around the body door opening, butting up against the original trim piece, so the DOOR seal can come in contact without ripping off a body seal.

David what you have used is what I am after and as I recall looks very much like what Escape uses (could be wrong on that though). Only problem is the website you gave doesnt seem to turn anything up as T-2 on a search and when I went to two automotive supply stores locally they had no idea as to what I was talking about when I asked them for T-2 type gasket. :-(
