Can anyone tell me where I can locate a replacement latch mechanism for the inside of the boler. The piece I'm refering to is the 'box' that the L handle slides into. I would concider getting a complete mechanism and L handle package as both need to be replaced.
http://www.faucher.ca/eng/pdf/section_b_ang.pdf bottom of page 28 shows this 'box' that I'm refering to.
Also, it seems that my L handle piece is seized inside the 'box', any ideas on getting it out. The box is sealed, so that I can't get to the inside of it.
Thanks for your help!

You can get a full replacement from Scamp for under $30 CDN. Have you tried contacting the company listed in the PDF link you provided? They be from Canada Eh?

There are 3 rivets on top of the latch and 3 rivets on the bottom. In between the rivets on top and bottom there is a spot weld holding the latch mechanism together. You can drill out the spot welds with a 3/16 bit and the two halves of the latch will come apart. There will be one spot weld on top and one on the bottom. If you look closely you can see a small indentation where the spot weld is. You can see the spot welds in the picture bottom of page 28.

Hi Ken, how`re you making out with your door latch? On my trailer, the spring that returns the lever to the horizontal was broken and after removing the lock mechanism, I bent back the side of the "box" that faces the front of the trailer....it exposes the lock assembly and I was able to replace the spring with a piece of spring off a lawn mower recoil, I think it was, I didn`t have to drill out the spot welds.....to try to remove your shaft, did you remove the set screw under the interior handle? This should allow you to pull the outside handle and shaft out of the lock ass`y....also there may be something stuck in the hole in the top of your ass`y which will prevent your latch from opening......putting about a 1/8" pin in there is what locks your trailer from the inside while you`re in it......anyway, good luck with it....Benny

Hi Benny,
I removed the small screw that holds the interior handle on, but still can't get the exterior handle/shaft out from the lock mechanism. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ken
BTW: Does anyone know where to locate a replacement assembly?

I suppose that if you have interior handle off then I would shoot a penetrating oil into the assembly and after a few minutes take a hammer and just pop the end of the shaft a couple times nice and straight and not too hard....just to jar it...you don`t want to drive the assembly thru the door, LOL....hold some piece of preferably brass or steel against the shaft because using just a hammer you could damage the shaft more than you`d like.....if you mushroom the end of the shaft a bit you can always file it square again....if the handle and shaft get loose then you can square off the shaft to pull it thru the bushing in the assembly......Benny

Thanks Joe, I'll have to check them out. I tried SOAKING the thing in WD40, filing off some rust, beating it with a hammer, no luck. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'll get some info from the guys at Don's.
Thanks.

Hi again Ken, went outside a few minutes ago and tried to take my lock off.....I`m now guessing that when I repaired the spring in my lock, I didn`t take the shaft out, but must have removed all the screws and turned the lock 180 degrees so I could unbend the end of the lock to replace the spring.....I could have sworn that I`d taken it out completely....guess my memory is worse than I thought......but, still, it has to be able to come apart to change it or install a new one.....sorry about that.....now am thinking that the shaft and box assembly must pull out of the outside handle and lock tumbler assembly, but how????.....I`ve tried it with the key in different positions but no success.....maybe go back to it later today when the weather cools some.....Benny
