The lower hinge needs to be on an angle because the arc of the body shell leaves the hinge pivots out of line. The hinges are offset in a vertical plane in 2 directions. That is also why the hinge pivots are balls and are spring loaded. The pivot points are a compromise due to body and door shell design. Its not like a standard door hinge where the door hinges are on the same plane and in line with each other.
