I have door sag so my door doesn't fit properly and therefor doesn't lock properly. a previous owner(s?) has cut away part of the locking system and then beefed up the bolt portion with screws to compensate for the cut away metal. (this may have been 2 separate people failing to solve the problem on 2 separate occasions) Anyway. i have had help with the door, and the bolts and pins were replaced with new but the sag only went away briefly. It is better than before though. Has anyone had any success with a new lock, or fixing the old one? i am worried about security b/c i travel alone sometimes. I've also been advised not to put an outside lock on in case some joker locks me in. i could just add in a basic lock set for inside safety, but ideally i would like to see what can be done with the original lock or location of lock before i have to start messing it up with screwing a new extra lock into the door and frame. thanks for the tips

Roy is right a picture would really help. But it sounds like you should fix the door sag first, then turn to the lock. Some have fixed the door sag on Scamps, Bolers etc. with a couple pieces of angle iron and a couple pieces of all thread. Maybe Donna remembers who had some pics of their mod, if not I'll look around in my computer for them. After thinking about this the mod I'm thinking about is the curve on the bottom of the door mod, so I don't think that is going to help you with a door sag. I'm sure someone here has fixed a door sag on a Boler though.

Con created an in depth article about fixing an aircraft-style door. Some or all of the ideas may be used. But I agree, trying to fix the lock without fixing the door maybe merely a bandaid solution.

ok, thanks. i will take some pics today and post later. i'll have to review that door fix document as well. (i really really really wanted to avoid that) i've already dealt with the door with no permanat success. Dealing with the door feels like looking up at everest. Oh well, that is life. I will look at it, thanks a lot. I'm still hoping someone has had experience with a good bandaid though.
