Hi, I am new to this list and I have only had my Scamp for about 2 weeks. The outside door latch is missing. I have a replacement but the screw holes are covered by the latch plate on the inside of the door. How or what can I do to fix this? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Lee

Lee, it's been a while since I turned my outside handle upside down (so bears, dogs and 'coons couldn't lean on it to open it), but I believe all you have to do is unscrew the six wood screws holding the inside mechanism to the door.

I found this. I’m not sure if it helps or not.

I'm also having trouble with my door latch, and attempted to remove the outside handle last weekend. I found the outside handle is attached with fairly short wood screws. You may need to grind off the end of the screws you are using, or simply use shorter screws to attach the outside handle to the door.

(I was not successful in removing the outside handle, but that's another story...)

It's not much of a story.

The door handle on our Scamp is sticky. When opening the door, the handle will stick in the down position, and is difficult to move. I figured it would be simple to repair; just remove the handle and latch assembly, clean everyting up and put it back together.

I removed the screws holding the outside handle to the trailer, and pulled. Hard. Then I beat on the stem from the inside. It didn't budge, and I gave up.

I'm applying penatrating oil every day or two, and will try again one of these days. If it still does not budge, I'll get out my drill.

I got out my drill. Drilled a 1/8 inch pilot hole, then a 1/4 inch hole about 5/8 inch deep into the square shaft. Then I hit it with a punch in the center of the hole I drilled. The handle finally came out!

I am now looking for a different type of latch to replace the stock latch because I don't like having to turn the handle by hand while closing the door. Anyone have any ideas?

Buying a 1yr old trailer I wanted to change the door locks after the prep man walked us through it on delivery day. He told me they don’t sell this brand but the key works on almost all there models as well as others so we didn’t get in our SUV good and wife says were getting a new lock on door as well as all the storage hatches. So did some surfing on the net and came up with the one below. The first one came in with a small crack in the housing and a new one was there in 2 days, which is great customer service. It has a 3 year warranty and am very happy with it. The remote is great when you have groceries to carry in and the keypad lets us go to the pool and not worry about keys. Just some food for thought.

Do you have a brand name and model number for the product you use? Is your door curved like mine is on a 16-ft casino
