Dumb question about taillights

I'm doing the wire of my scamp 13' 77. I managed to work the 4 lights that go on the side. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out how the taillight is wired. The side light was easy. White on ground, green right, yellow left. On the taillight there are 3 wires ( black, red, and green). Where does each wire connect to???

I know I have to use the brown one, and again green right, yellow left... But there are 3 ( black, red, and green) On the taillight. I tried and one side works super bright and the other one is dim. I'm sorry for such a dumb question but I could not figure out by myself...

No dumb questions are asked here Jose... just folks with problems needing solutions.

Does the Scamp wiring diagram in the Document Center help?

Hi: Chita... Just to make things difficult when re-lamping my former Boler I drilled off the bulb sockets and mounted in LED tractor trailer stop/turn/tail lamps. They were so bright I could put the original lenses over top of them...Retro style. Trouble is my brother, with the lead Boler in this pic., wanted me to do his too!!!

What you should have is a wire for the stop and tail. That will attach to the yellow or green to light the bright side of the bulb. The dim side of the bulb will go the the brown wire on a 4 flat. It is the running lights. The second bulb may be there to provide better light for the large assembly. The third wire should be the ground.

So a bright light wire. A dim light wire. And a ground.

Chita, do you have a 4pin flat connector ( white=ground, brown= running/tail light, yellow=left stop/turn, green = right stop/turn )? if you have a 7 pin round connector, the wire colors are the same. your side lights (amber front ---red rear) are wired to the brown wire. The rear light sockets are probably grounded thru the light socket to the frame. the bright bulb side should only work (burn)when the brakes or turn signal are used, both rear lights will burn when brakes are applied, only turn signal selected will flash. the other side brake light will be bright. the second bulb on the left side was for the license plate, it looks like it has been moved. Was mounted under the left tail light?

Scamp uses the Bargman wiring color code. The normal brown, yellow, green code does not apply internally to the scamp wiring. White is ground, black is house 12 DC. You can go to the Scamp website, in the owners manual and you will find the wiring diagram and color code.

Here are the led taillights. Looking good
Now, I have another dumb question. The side lights ( marker lights) are they supposed to be a turn light only, or are they supposed to be night lights as well? There are two yellow and two red ones on each side. The way it was set up before, they were turn lights only, but I think it would be good if they were night lights, right? Confused!!...

Chita: The side lights, like tail lights, should be on whenever the tow vehicle lights are on.

X 2. The lights on the side of your trailer (marker lights, or running lights) should be on with the headlights of your tow vehicle. Your lights look very good from the photos you put up. The only thing i see(or don't see) is a tag light. There is supposed to be a clear light shining on the license plate. Without it there is some law officer out there with "Fiberglass Envy" that will stop you, or even ticket you for not having a tag light. You can get a small round tag light and mount it in the bumper shining up on the plate to make it legal.

Your marker lights shouldn't ever flash, if that's what you mean by "turn lights". If they do, they're either wired wrong (not to headlight circuit) or if they're only "flashing" weakly, you could have another problem in the system....my limited experience is that poor ground connection is often the culprit with such anomalies.

I simple fix to the problem is to use Bolts with LED lights in them to attach the licence plate to its holder. Just run the wires to them from the main taillight wiring behind the licence plate holder. You can find them at most motorcycle or ATV shops.
