Electrical cord

Hi all
My originol electrical cord for my 72 boler is old and damaged. I want to replace. One side is a regular grounded 110 volt plyg in end.....the other end is pretty unique and plugs into the boler side wall inlet. Cant find thus cable at any local harware stores....anyone have any suggestions ? I wanted to avoid reinstalling a receptacle right into the boler....but maybe i have no choice.

David

Take your old cord to an electrical wholesale house and see if they can match the cord cap that fit the inlet on your trailer. Many older style receptacles / cord caps no longer meet NEMA standards so you may have to change both the inlet and the cord cap. An electrical wholesale house will have all the parts to make a new cord where a regular home improvement house may not. Finding a premade molded replacement cord will be difficult ,buying the parts and making up your own cord is probably your best choice.

It could possibly be a "twist lock" configuration. It plugs in and twists to lock the plug and receptacle together. If it has a NEMA number it refers to a particular configuration and really easy to match. If there is no number any good electrical supply house can help as has already been mentioned. Most likely a big box home center will not be able to help.

Check the document center. There's a diagram of the Scamp wiring, it should be close if not the same. However after all these years it's hard to say what some shade tree mechanic has done.

In the middle picture, there is a wire coming out of a screw hole. That's not right.

I'd strongly suggest you rethink your entire electrical system. At almost 40 years of age it's about due for a problem or two and needs a good looking at by a qualified electrician. I doubt if what I am seeing is legal or safe....

Yup the whole thing doesnt look right to me either and pretty sure not as it came from the factory.... but it does look a lot like an old 30 amp plug of some sort to me which does make some sense.

I think what you need is a 30 amp flush mount twist lock plug, probably with a locking ring. Also used on boats. this and a new cord should do the trick. Amazon shows one but I cant get it to copy here.

Is your fridge electrical only? or does it run on DC and or propane as well?

If you go to Amazon and search for a Marinco 30 amp Valox power inlet you will see what I am referring to. Sorry I could not paste it here. This is the 30 amp twist lock device that is also threaded for a locking ring. A 30 amp cord with a twist lock feature secures the cord. The threaded locking ring adds additional mechanical security. The plug end of the cord (male) is a NEMA TT 30 P to fit campground connections. A local marine store or GOOD electrical supply would have the twist lock parts. My Bigfoot has a large, outside the trailer, compartment that stores the cord and the cord is hard wired into the electrical panel. If you have the ability to store some permanently attached cord you could eliminate the need for a twist lock connection. Hope this helps.
