electrical problem

We recently purchased 13 ft 2001 Scamp
We took the marine battery out to charge it and when we hooked it back up the connection arched as if something was drawing power
when checking different power sources such as fridge, lighting ect. that switches were off , thinking problem was solved, but then checking few hours later the battery was completely dead. Repeated the process and checked to see if battery was still arching with everything off however something was still drawing considerable power, as the arching was intense. Has anyone had this problem?

Is the battery connected properly? Assuming the trailer is set up as original, the black wire should go to the positive terminal.

Most common reasons is as Clif suggests is the battery incorrectly connected.

The Scamps battery is connected as Black to Positive and Negative White wire.

This is frightening. Please disconnect the battery now.

If you have to ask for troubleshooting methodology then you need to get someone else to look at it. It's too dangerous. When you see something that leaves you to believe there is a large unexplained draw on the battery, and still leave it connected, you are asking for melted wires, fire, etc.

Make sure you have an appropriately sized fuse very close to the battery's positive post. If it were me, I would temporary replace that fuse with a one to five amp fuse which should not blow when everything is turned off but might blow quickly if something is wrong.
