escape hatch replacement

I have a 1986 Playmor II fiberglass camper. The cover of the escape hatch blew off. I took out the escape hatch hoping a company out there would make a replacement. The hole is 22 inches square. The escape hatch I took out is 24 inches square. Having difficulty finding a perfect match.
Options 1.( Should I put the old escape hatch on and get some kind of cover to place over it?
or 2.( Keep looking for the an exact match escape hatch.
thanks in advance

Rick, could you make one out of fiberglass? Use styrofoam to shape a mold, then cover it with fiberglass?

There are a few boat repair shops in Florida - they could probably repair your old cover or make a new one for you.

If it's plastic, search for a "plastic fabricator" online. They're used to make big things like boat windshields, so a boat shop may also be able to refer you to a local one.

David and Paula: I took out the entire escape hatch. I saw one online thats 21 1/4 inch square. I guess I can add 3/4 inch piece of wood to the existing frame wood thats there.

I ordered one that is an inch smaller at 23 inches. I should be able to build around it. And the holes for the screws will go in the stock wood around the campers opening. Thanks everyone! helpful as usual
