Exhaust Vent in Hunter Compact ii

Can anyone tell me if the vent over the stove in my Hunter Compact ii has a switch to turn on or does it just vent on its own. I cannot find any switch anywhere.

My Compact Jr had no fan, just a hole through the wall. I made a wooden box with a computer cooling fan inside. Works okay, but we rarely cook inside.

I cooked a pot of chili when I was with The Saddle Up event with Sisters on the Fly. I was amazed how hot it got in that little galley

Tom did you take the grill apart to place you computer motor. If so how I don't reconized the type achor to the wall.

Oh wow. We have this on our list for our Compact II. Are there pictures? Schematics? We have the fan, wire and switch. Just waiting for it to move up the list!

The vent in the kitchen area has no fan or switch. It's just a passive vent, capable of letting some hot air out.

Were you cooking with the pop-top up? That mode would vent hot air as well.

Hi Fran, no the top was down also when they restored the camper the top was replaced and it now does not have the nice screens like it had when it was new. It is just the same material all around.

Hi Deborah,
Perhaps you could put in a screen 'window' on each side of the pop-top fabric. This would definitely help with cooking heat generation, as well as be a relief from summer heat and stuffiness. But installing a vent fan should be helpful as well, until you get around to screen installation. Sounds like you like to cook, assuming that pot of chili was started from scratch and not from a can!

I don't think you'd need to remove the pop-top fabric to put in screens. If you made cut-outs and glued on your 'windows', that would be so much easier than taking off the pop-top fabric.

Francene I think I will try and install some screen material I do like to cook that chili was made from scratch.

My Compact Jr has a 12" x 5" plastic vent cover on the exterior wall and a simple aluminum sheet screwed to the interior opening. I threw away the interior sheet metal and attached the fan box to the wall with wood screws. I left the exterior vent cover in place but added bug screen under it.
