We recently purchased a 1977 Surf Side Triple E and have started the process of renovating. So far, we have pulled off the back benches and removed the old lonoleum flooring to reveal the plywood floor. It looks like there has been moisture in the past, but generally the wood is in decent condition. There are a few very small (2-3 inch) spots that are a little soft, however, and need our attention. From what we have read so far, it looks like we might just be able to use a wood hardener to strengthen these areas and help with any darker spots in the rest of the flooring rather than replacing.
Additionally, there was
fiberglass mat and resin covering many sections of the floor that only seemed to be holding moisture close to the wood. Would people who have done this before recommend the wood hardener and then
fiberglass over the plywood for stability and resistance to wetness?
We are also wondering, seeing as we already have the floor down to the plywood, how easy it is to replace the bolts holding the shell to the frame. They don't seem to be too corroded, but we have fairly easy access at this point in our restoration.
