Fiberglass Repair in Twin Cities

Hi, Does anybody have a recommendation for an RV Repair place in the Twin Cities? We are new owners of a Scamp 13' and while we just picked it up in January, one of the tail lights has pulled away from the fiberglass and the screws are stripped. This is our first trailer and Scamp said to take it to a qualified technician, or to them. We also had a terrible time trying to mount the license plate, did other folks design something custom for this other than attaching it to the tail light? Thanks for the help.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy their threaded insert kit item #1210.
Using the you can put threaded inserts into the fiberglass shell.
I attached my tail lights this way.
Put a little butyl rubber around the screw to make sure you keep the water out.
$21.99 and we'll worth it!

Fiberglass Repair in Twin Cities

I am understanding this is a warranty repair on a brand-new Scamp, no?

If it were something major or fiberglass related, I would certainly take it back to Scamp.

But this seems pretty minor to me, and a perfect opportunity to build a relationship with a local RV repair shop. Unless you're planning to do all your own maintenance and repairs, that could be useful. If you get a referral from someone in the Twin Cities area, great. But if not, I would just look for one close to you: not a big chain like Camping World, but a well-run independent shop. Talk with folks, observe the condition of the shop and yard, compare their labor rates to a few others in the area, and check with Scamp and make sure they have the a-okay so Scamp will reimburse the cost of the repair.

See how they do with a little repair. If they do correct, neat, timely, and fairly-priced work, bingo! You'll know where to go next time. And if not, they really can't do too much harm on this one, and you'll know where not to go next time.

I have heard a couple of reports of leakage into the rear bench area from the taillight holes, so making sure it is sealed well is important. I'd probably give it a good spray with a garden hose or pressure washer afterward to make sure.

There was a small body shop on the west side of St Paul right near the border with West St Paul that was noted for fiberglass repair on Corvettes . If the name of the shop comes to me I will post it.

Scamp Repair

Jon, that is good advice, thank you. Yes it is a warranty repair. They have agreed to pay for it if they are able to speak to the repair facility directly and tell them how they would like it repaired. I certainly would not like to end up with a leak.

Don't over-think this. Get some machine screws, fender washers and nylok nuts. Poke a nail thru the existing holes that had rivets in them all the way thru the 'rat fur'. FInd the nails under the rear dinette, remove them and install screws, fender washers and nylok nuts. If you are really worried about water intrusion, put a little silicone seal around the threads before snugging down the screws.
