Front window blow in! Cover recommendations

Well, I wasn’t really expecting this but not surprising in retrospect....first trip with my renovated Boler, including new front window (plexiglass and gasket) and on the way home we look back and discover the front window has blown in. Fortunately there was no damage to anything really! There’s obviously a lot of pressure at highway speed! Will get hardware to mount a front window cover!! My question is, what have other people done to build a front window cover? Don’t want to repeat this experience!!

Would a piece of 1/4” plexiglass that was big enough to go slightly beyond the gasket be adequate? It’s nice to see through the trailer when driving

Try using Lexan instead of plexiglass. MUCH stronger material - it's what the lenses over your tow headlights is made from.

the window should never have blown in. Installed wrong or gasket-ed wrong. I have not read of others having this occur. will others comment about their window blowing in ? many FG RV have no cover. was the window original ? if it was remade too small, it could slide be pushed out of the gasket.

We had a hell of a time replacing our big windows. So. Much. Cussing. I read some people don’t realize there are two steps to the gasket install. The final being squeezing a flap under the other flap. From the outside. I don’t know, but it was awful. If installed properly, I hate to think it could blow in. Yikes.
I have seen the work Shanos has done, top notch. So who knows...

Hi Kenny, I was thinking that I've seen other Bolers that don't have covers so not necessary to keep the window from blowing in. I did not install the window/gasket. I cut the plexiglass for the window and made it quite a tight fit. It was a one piece gasket installed by a professional shop to avoid the cussing etc that Renee described Not sure what the issue was but I'll be getting in contact with the shop this week.

You are correct. The window should not have blown in if the window was cut correctly and the gasket installed properly.

I’m not an expert, but I did wonder about your statement that you cut it really tight to the opening. Seems to me like there needs to be a small gap for the gasket to fit correctly. Most people just use the old window as a template to cut the new.

Something to discuss with the installer when you take it back.

Hi Jon,
I should clarify that I cut the window to fit tight allowing space that the gasket itself takes up at the edge of the window. The installer said it was a tight fit but the window went in. I'll chat with him this week. The window opening on my trailer was originally quite poorly cut...crooked lines, not level...so I recut the opening and thus couldn't use the old window as a template.
I'll post once I've talked to the installer what the possible cause and solution is.

Try the Classic Accessories 80-035-212307-00 RV Windshield Cover. It covers even the largest of windshields.

I think that question was answered already.. twice in fact. Bad installation and /or improper lockstrip / gasket / window size. With a very old window I could see how the gasket might be in such bad shape that it fails under high wind pressure but IMHO a new installation should never blow in unless you are in a tornado.
