For those of you with gasoline powered generators, where or how do you carry your gas cans ?

I have made this mistake myself. Your link was pasted directly into the message writing box in the reply window. Kevin went to the header of the message box and clicked on the globe/chain icon (just below the white smiley face) first. That opened a new window where he pasted his link, and then clicked on "OK" which inserted the code to make the link work into the reply.

you need to leave a single space on either side of the URL. You had a dash preceding it:

Just a word of caution-
Don't mount your can carrier on the back bumper- it's illegal in most states to carry fuel on the outside rear of a vehicle.

We carry ours on the tongue behind the propane tanks. One of the previous owner's added a storage area by extending the tongue so there is lots of room. If I did not have this space I would keep the can secured in the bed of the TV.

Have you considered converting your generator to LPG? From what I understand it's fairly simple and not to spendy. Then you wouldn't have to worry about gas spills/fumes. Googled how to convert gas to LPG and got a bunch of options

This thread reminded me that I once saw a State Patrol officer give some gas to a stranded motorist by way of a hose under the hood of the patrol car. I'm guessing this wasn't some kind of backyard spit-and-baling-wire setup, but something installed in the patrol car for this purpose. As I remember, his car was running, so I assume he was literally pumping fuel into the other vehicle. How cool is that? Carry your fuel in the safest possible place, your gas tank, maybe bringing along an empty can for the transfer.
Has anybody else heard of this?

I ordered my Honda 2000 with the propane conversion.
I have a SUV and carry the Honda inside. ( no smell )

Most vehicles today use an electric fuel pump where could just tee the line, install a valve and hose and you'd be all set!

I wouldn't even need to do that on my old 87 DeVille. There is already a tee with a schraeder valve on the fuel line for hooking up a gauge to check fuel pressure that would serve nicely.

Just the product of an ol' farm boy mentality. Most times it's easier just to make something than it is to drive all the way to town so you can buy it!

If I ever get a generator, this is the way we'll go. Keep the fuel in the car's tank where it belongs, and pump it out when needed.
I see you live in Western Washington- you and I know that the only way to get a full 5 gal. gas can on the ferry is to smuggle it aboard. I wonder if the ORV guys have figured this one out...
