Honda eu2000i inverter generator

Hi Out there. I'm going boondocking with a 13' Play mor camper. Can the Honda generator power the 5000 BTU a/c on a typical overnight for say 6 hours? can I plug the 30 amp cord into the generator with an adapter?
thanks
rick

The Honda EU2000i can easily power a 5,000 BTU air conditioner. If the A/C is cycling on and off, the fuel tank should be adequate for 6 hours, maybe even if the A/C is on more than off. More than 6 hours would be iffy. I plug my 30 amp cord into my Honda with an adapter.

I use a 2000 watt Champion inverter generator. It handles the 7000 BTU LG a/c in my camper at high idle, surge at start seems manageable (loads a little without appearing to stall).

Biggest issue seams to be how hard the A/C compressor starts. Some brands or even models from same brand of A/C start smoother than others. Also it is possible to add a soft start kit to some A/C units common on RVs.

But before getting into all of that, why not try starting up your generator in the drive way. Warm it up as required in the instructions. Then hook up the trailer and and start the A/C. Probably best to start the generator at full throttle (ECO mode off?), start the A/C, then let generator idle go into auto mode (ECO mode on?). Run if for a while and see if it throttles up and down nice and smooth or really struggles every time the A/C cycles.

My guess is it will be fine. But if the generator seems to struggle too much, I would look into the A/C operation. Either get a soft start kit or try a different A/C unit.

Thanks so much. How far from the camper do you have your Honda generator?

The Honda generator? Northern Tool runs sales for good price on Honda generators. Most people buy Honda or Yamaha because they are common and repairs can be done at most small engine/motorcycle shops. Main draw back is the high cost when you first buy one.

I bought a Champion because the same rating unit at Honda cost about $470 ish from Costco. I have seen the same model from several places in different colors (red or yellow or black). Wal-Mart is currently selling a version for $441. Champion has been making generators for a while, so I trust them just about as much as Honda for this job.

Jason

PS: My Champion sits in the A-frame just behind the hitch with the exhaust pointed street side away from the curb side door. Outside never gets dangerously hot and if I can't stand the noise that close, think about how everyone else feels.

My Honda 2000 will/does run my 9000btu AC for 8 1/4 hrs on a full tank. The AC unit does not have the soft start and the genny only runs at half throttle or less.

If in a questionable area, I lock my Honda 2000s to one of my wheels and around the axle and the lock in a hard place to reach. While site seeing in Co. there was a young couple told the campers next to us that we had given them permission to "borrow" our gens. Fortunately, we had not left the lock keys with them.
One year in Quartzite, Az., an airstream camped about a hundred yards from us in the boonies, had theirs stolen over night with it sitting out from their camper with an extension cord.

My Honda 2K in Eco mode runs the 6000 BTU A/C in my Scamp fine. I have run it long enough (yet) to see what the duration of a tank full is, but hope to find out later this summer.
