As I reported elsewhere, my tow vehicle (2011 Honda Pilot LX 2WD) was recently damaged in a rear-end collision in which, among other things, the donut spare was torn off. I would like to replace it with a full-size spare. The owner's manual seems to indicate this is possible:
The repair shop is willing to work with me on this (in fact, they have been very helpful and transparent on every aspect of this repair). But the manager is telling me it won't fit. That is based on measuring the current
tires on the vehicle (replacement Michelin P255/65R17s). According to the manual, the OEMs were P245/65R17s.
I contacted the Honda dealer I usually use, and the service advisor's answer was a categorical "won't fit." When I pointed out that the owner's manual indicated that it could be done (and should for towing), I got the polite version of "Sorry, can't help you."
Any current or former second-generation Pilot owners (2009-2015) out there who have done it? I assume you use the same 17" steelies as the OEM rims on my LX, but what size tire? How much difference in diameter is there between the P245/65R17 OEM
tires and the P255/65R17 replacements? Anything else I should know?
