How do I attach Scamp Vent Trim (ceiling)

I bought a new vent/escape hatch for my 1980 13' Scamp. I have the new interior trim cut to size.


Now the problem, on standard trailers they have 1x framing between the inside ceiling and the top skin of the trailer. This is perfect for screwing things into.


With the scamp we dont have that option.


There are 4 screwholes in the trim which would mount it right into (and through) the roof of the scamp.


How was it originally done and what have others done?

You can put the screw heads on the inside and the nuts on the outside. You can put a water proof clamp ring of the appropriate thickness on top of the roof and set the vent onto that.

Sometimes it is OK to be backwards

Thanks. Vent is already in and secure. I just want to secure the interior trim

you can make a frame from wood or from plastic deck material and install it with screws from above. These are the same screws which hold the vent and they make a more stable and rigid installation. Simply make the screws long enough to fasten the frame.

Our Scamp's Escape Hatch/Roof Vent was trimmed with wood corner molding.
The four pieces had mitered corners.
The screws, (sheet metal, 2 on each side) went horizontally into the frame of the hatch. sealed on the outside with caulk.

I’m starting to think attaching something from the outside may be my one best option… Still curious how they did it on mine originally

My Factory 1986 Scamp with rat fur interior escape hatch is trimmed in wood with mitered corners. I will have to try to remember to check it tonight to see how it is attached to the frame.

Escape hatch/ vent...Same thing only different.
Both of my examples were aftermarket and solid solutions.

Heres how Scamp did it in 1986. They used wood outside corner trim and screwed into the aluminium vent sides. 2 screws in each trim piece.
