How do I fix the vent?

Hi,

We just got a '74 ECO. Although it's in campable condition, I'm wanting to fix it up as much as I can.

One of the first things I want to do is to fix the vent. It's original to the trailer and in good condition, except for the locking mechanism. The "L" bracket has broken off. This "L" bracket has a keyhole that the pull chain goes through. To adjust the heigth of the cover, the chain is locked into the keyhole.

The challenge is that the screen has a 1/2" hole through which the chain hangs. It's big enough to get a q-tip or tweezers through. If I'm patient with myself, I think I can finagle the "L" bracket into place. The trick will be putting the adhesive on only the places I want it.

What type of adhesive would work best? It looks like both surfaces are aluminum.

Thanks for you help on this first question of many I'm sure I'll be asking.

If you can get it open you should be able to get to it from the outside, standing on a ladder not getting on the roof.

Thanks Greg. Good idea. Maybe I can enlist someone tall ... I'm only 5' and suspect I wouldn't be able to reach.

Rather than adhesive, can you use aluminum rivets to put the L bracket back on?
