If I was signing on for a $5,000 non-refundable deposit with a long wait I would at least want a written guarantee that the price was fixed and would not increase (other than special equipment I might order at the time of construction).

I have a $2,000 deposit on an Escape, waiting on notice of build date. If it is not until 2023 the cost will probably increase, leaving me with a choice to go ahead or cancel, receiving all but $250 of deposit back.

Deposits are great, you get the profit up front & it is really hard to make the company deliver if they do not want to, since they already have the profit in pocket..
Bigfoot has been back in business for quite awhile . The deposit varies by dealer. My dealer required 2000 down. I passed on the dealer that required a non refundable deposit. However they did have a very good reputation for customer service and support. My decision was also based upon an earlier production slot. Even then my delivery slipped from 9 to 11 months. The other dealer was quoting 18 months

Enderbush was my old stomping ground, used to see the class C's lined up, in Bigfoot's gravel lot in the early 2000's..
