How to find RV Storage places?
I'm planning to go to Philadelphia and visit the historic sites. Not sure I want to try to bring my camper into the city. Wondering if there is an inexpensive way to leave it for a day somewhere safe? RV storage place? Or should I just reserve a campsite somewhere and pay for it?
Also I'm going to need to store my camper somewhere in the Carolinas so I can drive up to NYC for Thanksgiving, and then again for Christmas/New Years. How do you find an RV storage place? When I Google search RV Storage, it gives me every self storage place in the area. I'm sure they don't all accommodate campers.

Some campgrounds have storage areas for seasonal campers so they may allow a short term storage.

Many of the self storage places have outside spots for campers and trailers, a quick phone call will let you know. I rented one for a month when I was in a similar situation. The place was fenced and had lights on all night. Very safe and relatively low cost.

I use craigslist to find RV storage space. Go to the housing section and click on the parking and storage option. Then use the keyword RV to limit the results. Quite often you might see some private individuals offering to store RVs in their driveway or on their small acreage. You can also put in a limit for the distance to your zip code. Just remember that the most affordable options are not in a town, they will be outside of the town.
Another place that might work is a place where boats are stored. I live in a neighborhood that has lots of boat storage places and I regularly see campers and trailers stored in those yards.
Short term might even be arranged with a place that does car repair and has a locked yard for vehicles that need to be there for more than one night. Cash in hand speaks to people the loudest! It can make the difference between getting a yes or a no.

Did you google boat and rv storage to see what came up? Where I live in Texas there are numerous places that store one or both so I would think there would be something similar up there.

Many if not most storage places have some spaces for RVs.. pick up the phone and ask them. You have to do some work to find the best place(s). Price shop and check their security.. RV's stored in the back of storage lots in high crime areas are a frequent target of thieves.

We live in a rural area with a lot of lakes and boats .There are lots of rental garages which are large enough to store boats but the problem is that the overhead door openings are not high / tall enough to accommodate travel trailers
The owners of these storage garages know about this issue so if they have storage units with taller door openings the rental price jumps dramatically
( Think double or triple)
My point is ; cheap storage is no bargain if your trailer won’t fit through the door

Indoor storage? My arn't we fancy
Around here indoor rental storage for boats and campers is very uncommon. So if you want indoor storage, thats another question to ask or to search for online.

The OP is from Massachusetts so I assumed winter is similar to where we live in Wisconsin. We also have outdoor storage facilities where they shrink wrap boats for winter storage . The problem is that the shrink wrap traps moisture leading to mold . Our pontoon boat is commercially stored in an enclosed , locked pole barn .

There is Campus Park & Ride in Philadelphia. 1600 Warfield St.267-324-9691 You can or could camp there at one time. Not the best section of town but it is safe. Water, electric and a dump station. Real close to all the attractions. You may want to get a cab. They do have shuttle service. No green grass, trees or game room.

You may want to check South Jersey, too. It’s very close to Philadelphia, and is actually closer than a lot of the Philadelphia suburbs.

An EMPTY / UNUSED RV is a magnet for problems. Even in so called "secure" locations, bad things happen (bad people rent storage space so that they have access to other people's stuff). The homeless, druggies, alcoholics etc seem to have a radar about finding these "available" temporary shelters. Ideally, you want a trusted someone to REGULARLY check your rig. Good luck!

That's good to know! I looked them up and it really is a secure place to camp in the city limits.
