Ice box on propane gas

I have a 1983 13'Scamp with the original ice box that runs on propane.
How many BTU's will it use up in a hour?
20lb propane tank full has 433693 BTU's

You'll hate me for this, but the answer is that "it depends".

It depends on
* how cold you want the fridge interior to be
* ambient temperature
* humidity
* how often the fridge is opened
* how much warm stuff is put into the fridge that it will have to cool down

One way of determining the worst case is look at the plate on the fridge itself -- it specifies how many BTUs the burner uses when it's on. It will never use more gas than when the burner is on all the time....

I am not familiar with the exact refrigerator unit you are talking about but my experience with propane refrigerators is they don't use much. Several times I ran mine for a week from a 30lb tank plus heating up the 6 gallon water heater once a day and I would still have from a third to half a tank of gas left.

Easy test. Put a few bottles of drinking water or your favorite beverage in the fridge to simulate food. Hook up a full bottle of propane. Check it two or three times a day and see how long it will go before it runs out.

I am assuming that you have a Dometic refrigerator. If you look in the Document Center and go to appliances you can look up the manual for your model. They don't give specific BTU's, but do talk about pressure. from the tank and regulators.

I found some information that says from 14 to 325 BTU.

Just as an FYI Kevin, based on the topic title... I thought you were asking about an original ice box that had been CONVERTED to run on propane. Yes that's true. We've actually had at least one member ask if it was possible. So, you're actually asking about a 2-way or maybe a 3-way refrigerator that runs on propane? I'm only asking for the future search possibilities.

And, I'm the one that moved it from General Chat to Problem Solving...

It's a 3-way refrigerator, just wanted to know how many BTU's it would use when on propane.

The nameplate inside my Dometic 2410 says 'Input 1000 BTU'.
