ice on roads

Please be careful. Highway 299 from Arcata to Redding California is open, BUT, slow down and drive carefully. Today, Sunday, I saw one very large RV towed by a diesel pickup and wished him luck. These highways, during this cold weather season are nothing to fool with. Temps have been around 18-24 degrees at night with the day time temps rising to about 40 degrees. Highway 299 is a beautiful road during the summer and fall but is not to be fulled with during winter. Many of us are doing the "rain dance" (in jest, you know) because we know that when the rains come the temps rise. Drive safely and we'll see you this coming summer and by the way Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year Marg

Getting better

Roads are plowed and sanded but due to below zero temps at night black ice is still a problem . The temps got above zero this afternoon so Spring can't be far off.

Yep, it's California alright! In the San Francisco Bay area we've been pulling the blankets off the beds and placing them over the outdoor plants so they don't get frostbite. We've also had 7 days straight of "Spare the Air" days so we've had no cozy fires in the fireplace! That said, weather's a lot milder than most of the US now.
